If the info on the gearbox's are right and there are different 4th-5th and final drive ratio's now. This will give us the ability to mix and match to get better ratio's to suit what we may want.I like the idea of the 0.804 5th with a 3.550 final drive.

Yeah, that'd be good for mileage. 100 kph / 60 mph would give you a cruising rpm of a hair over 2500. Still on the high side IMO, but the engine is on the small side, so its probably adequately loaded to get good brake specific fuel consumption.

Yes Daox that seems a good thing rpm around the 2500 mark at 100kph / 62mph.

I've added gear ratio charts in KMH for basically everyone else in the world other than the pokey US who doesn't like the metric system.

Does anyone know if the us/can version will have a taller 5th gear to meet north american needs?

I think that is highly unlikely. A taller ratio will make the car feel less powerful on the highway and the small engine is probably already going to be a complaint here in the US.

I'll be curious to see which final drive ratio we get here. I'm predicting the non-Euro (numerically higher) one, just because automakers tend to favour "performance" gearing over economy gearing in this market.

I was driving a cruze demo off our lot for a couple days (1.4l turbo) and it wss under 2000 rpm at 70. I went on vacation and rented a sentra (cvt) and was under 2000 rpm at 70.

It would be nice if we can figure out how to determine the gear ratios of the 5spds hitting north america, could it be printed on the door jam sticker?
