Im in contact with a few different companies atm. One of them is Haltech. This is the response to 1 of my inquiries "It may be possible, you would need to wire the ECU in parallel like you describe. This style of installation is often very difficult, as the factory ECU may sense it is not connected to various outputs and go into protection mode. We will also need to confirm crank and cam sensor tooth patterns found on the engine to confirm we support the trigger type".
Any idea how to get that intel? I did initial "search-fu" try, with no results.
Here is the latest reply from the Haltech rep "We will need an oscilloscope trace of the crank and cam sensor signal during cranking/engine running or a picture showing the tooth arrangement of the teeth the sensors read from. If we support the crank and cam signals, it would then be a custom wire in of a universal ECU".
I didnt have any more luck trying to get him the info he needed. If anyone with some more technical knowledge of this can work this out, we could gain some ground.
Pull your sensor n count the teeth or your oil pan.
Or even Go to a dealer and ask to buy the ring. Take a pencil trace it
Someone at an electrical place Will have an oscilloscope and you could just give em a $20
If you are serious about going full stand alone all of a sudden, without question go with megasquirt. There is zero better options, and likely none cheaper.

Per you suggestion, I contacted DIYautotune.com. Was sent back questionairre with 12 questions. could answer all but two:
7. What sort of sensor(s) does it use to trigger the ignition? Variable reluctor (magnetic pickup)? Optical? Hall effect? Old fashioned mechanical breaker points? Are the sensors triggered by trigger wheels on the crankshaft / flywheel, distributor / cam, or both?
8. How many teeth / windows / slots and are on the crank or distributor trigger wheel? How are they arranged? (Equally spaced, missing teeth gaps, etc)
Again the question of teeth on cam/crank. Still cant find a diagram for these. Is there only 1 sensor for both crank and cam? If i pull that sensor, will I be able to count ALL the teeth from there?

Ive dl the FSM (factory service manual) http://uploaded.net/file/lfiy2b3f via our terrific forum members. It appears to me that the camshaft/crankshaft position sensor is one unit, not 2 separate units. Is this correct? If so, is it triggered by the crank AND cam? Looks like you determined the sensor trigger is Hall. I read into the manual and found diagram for the camshaft. Appears to have 36 teeth with no gaps. Again, this is the untrained eye im using here. Getting closer to solid answers

Here is a diagram showing both a camshaft and a crankshaft position sensor. Apparently the same part (x2), just positioned differently on the engine block.
Here is a diagram of the part (MR985041/Mitsubishi Parts Warehouse) and its relative positioning. The crankshaft sensor(6) is placed vertically and the camshaft sensor(4) is placed horizontally.
Am I seeing that correctly?
