My thermometers arrived. It's supposed to be 26F tomorrow. I'll post my findings then.

I own two mirages, so it has been nice being able to compare the heat issue. My car currently has this issue but my wife's car doesn't. I didn't even notice until she kept saying her feet were cold when she got into my car. I'm coming to the same conclusions about the heater core... although I'm also interested to see if a thermostat fixes the issue but I don't think it will.
Same issue: The driver's side is very hot and the center vents differ a little bit but the passenger's side vent and floor vent get pretty chilly. I did notice that the heat DOES RETURN to both sides equally when I rev the engine up to 5,000 RPMs for about 30 seconds. The drivers side temp doesn't change much but the passenger's side gets to be just about equal temp to the driver's side. I think that's a pretty good indication of poor heater core flow.
I'm pretty convinced that the heater core need to be replaced and that flushing it will not help. BTW, I've never added any coolant since it left the dealership, or let anyone else touch it so I'm pretty sure its not a coolant issue.. in my case at least.

Here's my preliminary findings,
Fan on 4, air control set to dash only, external air set to recirculate,
The driver's side reached 154F, Passenger side reached 143, center not measured.
These temps were grabbed quickly with the car parked, I plan on more elaborate measurements when I have more time.

My second set of findings are in. As the ambient temp was higher, about 38F, the results were up. I didn't test the center outlet nor did I try a mix of outlets. I set the control for dash only and recirculate.
The passenger side was 162F and the driver side was 166F. Engine speed was about 3500 rpm. I was tooling around town at speeds of about 35-40mph. So based on my latest tests the '17 series passes with flying colors.
It will be interesting to test again once temps plummet (if they do again, this is a weird winter)

The Mirage went into surgery early this morning they said it would take all day. Getting my car back tonight might be an issue if it takes longer than their shuttle service is running.
