Yeah, nice deal. I just happen to have several of the 185 60 14's in stock already. That's why I'm trying to see if anybody's already done it on the stock alloys.

185/60s will be fine. I have 185/65s on mine.

Well, as a "does this setup clear" standpoint, I can confirm that a mirage 1.75in lower than stock with 14x5.5 wheels with standard circumference tires works fantastic, no rubbing or anything. Steering too, no rubbing, lock to lock.
Anyone running 16x7in wheels lowered for AutoX? I am planning on picking up some 16x7 bbs wheels or something like that, so i can corner harder then I can now.
Check out Loren's setup. He's the resident authority on autocrossing a Mirage. You can find details on his Mirage at the two links below. He runs 195-50-15 tires on 15x7 wheels. Something tells me if 16" wheels were better for autocrossing, he would have gone that route.

16's suffer from not as many available tire options, and usually wider than what you'd want on a Mirage. So, there's that. But, 16" wheels are simply heavier than 15's. If they made good performance tires in a 195/55-14... and good lightweight 14x7 wheels were available... and 14's would fit with the lower control arm mods that I've done... I'd consider running 14's because they're lighter. Weight matters on a 2,000 pound car with 74 hp.
15's have much greater availability of lightweight wheels and performance tires. They are the best option for performance on the Mirage.
That photo, btw, is a good example of why you shouldn't autocross a Mirage on stock suspension... and you should really think about what you're doing if you autocross one that's simply been lowered.
That photo is after the car was lowered 2" with GodSpeed coilovers. I got 4" of air under the front tire with stock suspension. (and I only did that once, thank you very much!) The coilover kit did help settle the car down and make it feel better. From the driver's seat, you can hardly tell that it was lifting a front tire. But, it was. And that's kinda scary on a FWD car that's already got the rear tire in the air! It took a custom modified set of lower control arms and taller ball joints to correct the roll center and get the car to handle properly without feeling (or behaving) like it wants to roll over.
Simplify and add lightness.

Well, that is a stack of good information.
So really, there would be no advantage to go with a wider tire... And I must admit, I am more comfortable with losing traction and sliding around, then having more and more grip until I roll over...
That's rather disappointing, but with the height of the car, and it's width, it isn't surprising.
Hmm, a super lightweight 15x6 or 15x6.5 with a forgiving summer tire sounds like fun to me...
You can check out my 15" wheel/tire combination here. Just keep in mind my goals are largely cosmetic/mpg and not performance-oriented.

MPG = performance.
