Milestone passed: 100,000 Mirages sold in the U.S.

A couple of weeks ago, someone bought the 100,000th Mirage in the U.S.

    (6th generation Mirage, that is.)

If you've been following the Mirage sales numbers thread, you knew this was coming. And by the end of July, total U.S. sales hit 101,329.

Coincidentally, this month is the 5-year anniversary of the very first shipment of Mirages setting sail for the U.S. (They were in dealerships late September, 2013, and 20 buyers took one home that month.)

Globally, about 750k Mirages have been produced to date. (Related thread: It's the 6th gen Mirage's birthday (Mar. 20, 2012 launch) Production history trivia! )

The first shipment of Mirages being loaded onto a transport ship for export to the United States

    Back to the U.S...

What's really interesting is the upward sales trajectory of the Mirage through each of the last 5 years. It has managed to increase sales a little bit every year, while sales of almost every other small car on the market have tanked in the same period. (Some of its early competitors have even been dropped from the market.)

Mirage owners can toot their own horns.

Very nice! Well done Mitsu for offering a great little car.

Personally, I hope they continue to offer this generation of Mirage alongside whatever is ostensibly supposed to replace it in 2020. Make that replacement model a stand-alone model...an AWD 'cute ute'...and expand the lineup. FFS, Mitsubishi, please don't call it the "Mirage Cross"!

As long as the current Mirage platform sells, passes emissions standards, and passes safety tests, leave it alone! This isn't a market segment where people expect major redesigns every 3-5 years.

I agree. The mirage could use updates but Mitsu will prolly introduce a ford eco boost-like car cuv, maybe even a recloned renault or nissan

Agreed. Mitsubishi sold the Lancer for about ten years without a major reworking of that platform. The Mirage could easily go to '20 or '21 with no major model overhaul...and perhaps further.

Cobrajet this article might interest you, apparently a new 2020 Mirage crossover is actually in the works, on a new Nissan/Renault/Mitsu shared platform. Small ute may be also known as the 2020 Lancer or a Lancer cross. Please check out the link below:

    2018 year-end total: 110,086

Mirage rounded out 2018 with 24316 Mirages & G4's sold, its 5th annual increase in sales.

That makes it 110,086 total U.S. sales at end of 2018.

Remarkable! (Or maybe not, depending on whether they're goosing the numbers with strategically-timed cut-rate fleet sales.)

It's also the first calendar year the Mirage outsold the Chevy Spark.

The Mirage's sales record is also notable in a year in which automakers announced the cancellation of numerous small cars in the US market:

    - Ford Fiesta
    - Ford Focus
    - Hyundai Accent hatchback (though you can still get a sedan)
    - Smart Fortwo internal combustion version (EV still available)
    - VW Beetle

Several news sites have also speculated that it's just a matter of time for the Chevy Sonic, Fiat 500 and the Toyota Yaris (thread: Toyota Yaris deathwatch is on &nbsp.
