80% of the time it bounces a bit and stays latched but not shut.
Any advice? Slam it harder is perfectly fine advice by the way.

Can't just say "slam it harder" without knowing how hard you're slamming it in the first place.
Maybe a video would help?
Simplify and add lightness.

I know what you are talking about. It's the same thing that used to happen with VW Beetles back in the day. Like the old VWs, these cars are sealed up pretty well and have doors that are quite light. So you can't just casually get the door moving and let it close/latch itself by inertia like you can with most vehicles. The internal air pressure in the cabin will keep it from latching all the way.
I usually have at least one window cracked, and that helps deal with the internal air pressure in the car preventing the door from closing. But when I don't it usually requires a couple tries!
Try cracking a window and closing the door with the same force you used before. I will bet it latches just fine.
Internal pressure shouldn't be an issue. Cars these days have vents in the rear to deal with this problem. They're usually behind the rear wheel well under the rear bumper cover from my experience with other vehicles.

Instead of just flinging it shut leave your hand on it while it shuts.
Works like follow through in a golf swing.
Will weld for beer.

I agree with Cobrajet. The cabin pressure acts against the door when closing it if all other doors are shut and windows up. Leaving the climate control air recirculator in the open position helps a bit.

Quite true, but these doors are very light. I have actually even had one off and held it in my hands before.
I only have this problem when all my windows are completely shut...like when I am getting ready to wash the car. Otherwise, at least one window is always cracked for some reason.
