    It was bound to happen

2am. On my way home from work. A HUGE raccoon ran out.. The front of my car is a mess.

Going to need a whole new bumper cover and the metal on the bottom of the structure is all bent as well. Not to mention that big gap between the grill and hood make me thing that the whole front end got pulled down.

Yeah that certainly stinks. Where are you located in Wisconsin?

The big gap is pretty normal I think.

Here is mine. Looks less substantial, but I think that is mostly because the car is black.

That repair done professionally with OEM parts will be roughly $1250. That's to repair/replace anything bent/broken and to repaint and install a new front bumper cover.

Here's a parts breakdown of the front bumper pieces...

Sometimes a cracked/torn bumper cover can be repaired...but that one looks pretty bad. I would want a new cover. Don't let a shop try to talk you into an aftermarket unit just to save $100.

I think I could probably do most of it myself. At least the removal and replacement of the bumper cover. That is if the cover comes complete with the chrome inserts. The Fog light isn't broken and the tabs are in tact. Painting it would have to wait until summer since I drive my car about 550 miles a week. Local parts shop here does not carry the bumper cover. Unless anyone knows how different the 14/15 to the 17/18 bumper covers are? Then they carry them. And of course this is going to be a rare part in a JY since most this new would wind up in a junk yard because of front end damage!!

A friend of mine had similar damage done by a large raccoon to his Prius. After the repair work was done, he hit a deer two weeks later. Way more damage to hood & front bumper.

Hard to avoid sometimes! Number #1 reason I never like riding a motorcycle @ night. Hope your repairs go well!

We had a similar thing at work. A van got rear ended with about $6000 worth of damage, got it fixed and not even a week later it got hit again much lighter but the quote was still over $2000.

I've been lucky, I've only grazed a deer and only broke a marker light. Grazed a moose once too but it wiped out the entire side and caved in the windshield and bent pillar with it's head. Didn't even knock it down! Wouldn't want to hit one in something any lower to the ground.

You can lessen that gap by turning the round rubber thingies under the hood in a clockwise direction. Thats the one where the hood sits.

You know, I saw the arrows on those and thought they were both supposed to be pointing toward the front of the car. I rotated them. Maybe I will try turning them back around....
