hi there everyone! we're planning to buy a mirage for our first car.. have some quest

Hi there everyone! me and my wife plans to buy the mirage here in the philippines. We have 4 variants and we're planning to have the lowest model. 1.2 glx mt. I dosent have a spoiler. Im wondering if i buy and place the other spoiler offered by mitsubishi (not the curve) will it reduce or improve the aerodynamics (how much)? Should i buy it or not? It dont hve the brake light on it. It is much sportier than the curve spoiler with brake lights. My concern is about the areodynamics and fuel efficiency of the car. Thank you!

    Welcome to the site paxvsams.

I'm not sure which spoiler you're talking about. If its the one that follows the roof line and tapers down, that one will help with aerodynamics. If it is the one that curves up, it will hurt aerodynamics.

    Paxvsams:
A "spoiler" as used in racing cars, is primarily to increase downward force at high speeds to keep the wheels on the ground. Now the Mirage/Attrage here in the US is only rated to go around 105mph MAXIMUM. The so called "spoiler" on the car is probably more properly labeled a "styling accent" which probably has a small effect on aerodynamic drag by effectively increasing the apparent length of the car. Note that a lot of the subcompacts have variations of this styling accent, the Mitsubishi being the longest. My take on this is that you will probably never recoup the cost of this accessory in gasoline savings unless you habitually drive at high speeds (120 kph+) for extended intervals. One real benefit of this accessory, is the fact that the rear hatch window stays cleaner in dusty and muddy conditions with the "spoiler".

I disagree... most definitely it was designed for aero over styling, given the amount of effort Mitsu put into getting the car's Cd down to 0.28 (or 0.27 in some countries): http://mirageforum.com/forum/showthr...-with-options)

But you're absolutely right that its benefit is a small part of the entire package of aero features on the car. Buying it to save fuel probably doesn't make sense financially.
