That's because everyone else styled their SUVs after it, as it was the original. I think Chrysler made a mistake by not keeping it's nameplate.

It will be interesting to see if Fiat will succeed in bringing it back to market.

You know, there were actually a few cars in that were made during this time that were really interesting by nissan. If you want to see something really weird, you should look up the S-cargo. Looks like an actual snail but its like a cargo car hahaha

I've always wanted an old Mercedes diesel sedan. I'd love to own anything originating from 1953 to 1985, which correspond to Ponton up to the W123 eras.
About five years ago, I went to the bank to stash some money. I thought, maybe I'd get married in five years. If not, I'll start my dream hobby of car restoration.
Four years later, I got married. My wife, knowing that I was a bit of a petrolhead, said:
"My late grandpa had two Mercedes-Benzes. It's currently garaged in his old house just sitting there."
So I took a look and found, not one, but two old Mercedes diesels: A 1957 180D "Ponton" and a 1965 190D "Fintail":
Ooh, lucky me.
Thus, I have a new project this year! I only have enough time and money to work on one car, so we are looking at selling the other (likely to an uncle who is also into car restoration, so we'll still get to see it around). Wish me luck!
P.S. The 180D's OM636 and 190D's OM621 engines were originally rated at 40HP and 50HP, respectively. The Mirage has nearly twice the power pulling 35% less mass around. "Slow" is relative.

I'm loving this discussion, particularly the old Mopar talk!
I just picked up my newest one this past weekend.

The 180D will be my project. I'm keeping the old engine. Modern retrofits will be:
1. Aircon (a must in the local tropical weather)
2. LED headlamps
3. Radial tyres (Well they have radials on them right now, but they're rock hard from sitting 25+ years)
4. Generator to alternator conversion
