Yesterday's fill-up put Speck's lifetime fuel economy average at 50.0 mpg. I had hoped I would get there before the winter temperatures beat it back down...
Speaking of fuel economy, I noticed a few things about Speck lately with colder temperatures setting in. Fuel fill-ups typically last several weeks for me - usually between three and four weeks. I was able to watch fuel consumption increase with temperature decrease, and this was most apparent when temperatures dropped below freezing. As this was on the same tank of gasoline, I'm more convinced the winter fuel economy hit is more due to temperature rather than 'winter fuel.'
Also, I notice Speck's motor rattles more until warmed up. This isn't the typical valvetrain noise I'm used to. With that, I believe it is motor parts being affected by the temperatures. It's no surprise to me, just an observation.
