I'm trying to improve the load time it takes for my USB drive to read & play MP3 files.
I find the load time is excessive, especially since I sometimes stop the engine at a stoplight - the radio takes too long to start playing after startup. I don't think I'm exceeding any of these limits. I sure do wish auto start & stop was an option...Originally Posted by 2015 Owner's Manual

I removed all the files off the memory card*, reformatted it (though I don't think it really needed it as it was already FAT32) and put files back on. Not all the files, but most. When I plugged it back in the USB port and turned on the radio, it took a couple minutes to sort through all the files but eventually played. I tested the changes by turning the car to off and back on again and it resumed playback where it left off. It took a minute to resume, but it eventually did. I'm thinking it takes the radio/Bluetooth interface some time to catalog all the files.
I also tried the voice command interface that I read about somewhere here and in the manual. It's pretty cool to be able to search the songs I want using voice commands, rather than try to navigate to the folder to find the music I want.
When I put my files back on I checked a few things. First, I made sure that only MP3s were loaded. Before, I had some documents on there, so I kept them off. Then I checked the file properties and found I made a bunch of them read only. I removed that in hopes that it might help. I'll use it and watch over the next few days to see if it made any difference. I think it already has, as it wouldn't resume play in the right song - so I got that going for me.
*I'm using a 32G micro SD card in a small USB card reader. It seems to work great. Right now, I believe slow response correlates to the number of files I have loaded, not with the card reader.

I have an old flash drive with about 1200 songs and it only takes a few seconds to load. How much do you have on your card? I imagine a USB 3.0 flash drive might be even faster, although more expensive.

Good question - I'll have to check. I don't think it's close to 1200 though.

Windows reports 3,439 files in 269 folders for a total of about 21 gigabytes.
anog, how many folders are you using on your USB drive? Are all your songs in just one or two folders, or more?

Mine are all in one folder, but you also have a lot more than me so it's hard to compare. I wouldn't rule out the SD card or card reader as the weak link although with that much music the wait may be unavoidable.

Thanks, anog. You have a good point.
I've been doing some research on this. I have some questions submitted to Mitsubishi. As soon as I hear back from them, I'll be sharing the results, probably in a new thread.
